Here's an update on my situation. He ended up texting me after 1 am, which is not unusual for him. There have been numerous times in the last 3 years that he has done this, like I should be happy he's calling me at all; even though calling at such a late hour means he is probably under an influence, and ready to get it in. What I realized about him and this situation: HE ONLY WANTS MY ATTENTION, NOT ME, MY LOVE, OR COMPANIONSHIP. He is an attention whore. Maybe that's why he likes Kanye West so much...birds of a feather.
